Path of Exile Item Upgrading
The best method to improve your equipment in Path of Exile is through upgrade of your items. This lets you improve it without having to depend on costly trades or drops. This article will help you understand how to upgrade your items.
Upgrading equipment grants a bonus to the item's base stats. This bonus scales with the upgrade component's level and rarity.
Components
Upgrade components are the things that can make your weapons and armor more effective. You can find them through destroying enemies, buying them from karma vendors, or finding them in item-spheres. They can also be salvaged from equipment with them or by using the highest-quality salvage kits like the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components aren't destroyed by removing them from the item.
The main function of upgrade components is to allow an item to be upgraded, however, they also serve other functions. They can be used to boost the level or experience gained from upgrading existing equipment or weapons. They can be forged for additional bonuses. A crafted glyph can increase the upgrade chances of its target while an upgrade boosts the attack or defense capabilities of a weapon.
You can attach an upgrade template to an item by selecting it from the edition GUI. This will show the upgrade components to which the item can be upgraded. You can also use the workbench for selecting an upgrade template. In either case, an item will be upgraded once enough upgrade components have been collected.
Each component has a distinct experience multiplier that affects the amount of experience an item will gain when it is upgraded by the component. Organic components, for instance have a higher multiplier of experience than mechanical components. It is recommended to upgrade the organic components first, until you reach the next rank in the weapon or equipment, and then switch to the mechanical upgrades.
Each item comes with an upgrade maximum number that can be received. The number of items that can be upgraded is determined by their upgradeable rank and the type of upgrade they can get. For instance, the highest possible upgrade for a weapon is a weapon with tier 10. However, the most common upgrades for weapons are the tier 6 weapon and an armor upgrade of tier 5.
Sets
A set is a set of items which all have the same bonus. Each item can be upgraded at minimum once. The upgrade increases the bonuses that are guaranteed. The first time you upgrade a set piece or weapon is that it will be given an increase of +1 to its primary stat. After subsequent upgrades the stats of the primary one will be boosted a little further (for example, +1 to 12+/13+/14+) Each time you upgrade the item it will have one of its additional stats will be increased randomly.
Upgrades can also increase the base damage of a weapon. This may be important for certain types of builds. However, weapons cannot be upgraded to have a greater maximum defense roll than their normal base. Upgrades can be a great method to increase the value of certain sets and unique items, but it's important to remember that they're not necessarily more effective than a high-level raneword in any build.
If an item you're upgrading has a guarantee bonus it is able to be rerolled a few times, and then its guarantee will reset to 0. Rerolling costs the same amount of power dice as bringing an item, but the new item will have different extra bonuses. The NPC [Armor] Boboko can upgrade your armor in Central Flarine. To upgrade an item, you'll need a power die of each kind (Dice 4 or 6 drop from monsters 21+ and Giants; Dice 7 drops from bosses) and the appropriate amount of Minerals and Erons. These can be purchased by using Gold at the crafting table or in the Ultra Collection. The NPC will also provide an extra reward for each tier of the upgrade process. The reward can be rerolled one time with the same materials as the original item.
Rerolling
If the player has enough rerolling tokens, they can play rerolling any item they've acquired during the game. If an item is rerolled, it will be replaced by the same level in another set. Reroll tokens can be purchased at the store for a small amount of in-game currency, however they cannot be refunded. The new item upgrade d will have the same bonuses of the original one, but its stats will differ also.
Players can alter the identification of their equipment as well as changing it's roll by interfacing with an upgrader NPC. This will change its identification from a weapon to an armor, or vice versa. Its base stats and requirements will remain the same. The change will last for a long time and affect all characters who have the gear.
Players can also increase the item level of any equipped device by obtaining upgrade components and communicating with the NPC who upgrades the item. The cost of upgrading will depend on the upgrade track, the item type and the number of crests. Each step will give 5% more damage to weapons.
Upgrades can increase the effectiveness of an item, but they can also reduce its quality. It is therefore important to keep both in check. Some items aren't worth upgrading, whereas others require upgrading to maximize their potential. For instance one player might decide to upgrade a piece of breakpoint armor that has an interesting modifier (% chance to block or FHR) to see what it can become.
The main reason people reroll in Genshin Impact, or in any gacha-based game is that they're trying to acquire a certain weapon or character that they aren't able to obtain. These items can be costly and time-consuming to acquire and the RNG isn't always a good fit. The only options are to spend real cash or grind lots. Rerolling is very popular in Genshin Impact.
Leveling
You can decide to upgrade the weapon or armor when you upgrade an item. This feature is not available in the current version of the game. I believe it was designed to to give some value to rare items, but since gear in general drops fairly quickly and can only be upgraded after a certain amount of levels and you'll typically replace the item before it becomes old enough. It's also not worth it to upgrade items with gem sockets since the value of the gem will be greater than the increased ilvl that comes with the upgrade.
You will see a small box when you click the upgrade option on an item. It will show the item's template, the crest, and the cost for Valorstone to raise the item's level. Armor and weapons have different costs, with the latter typically being more costly. The upgrade template shows the statistics that will be added to the upgraded item and will also list its current base ilvl.

The Crest and Valorstone costs are calculated according to the item's current ilvl as well as the upgrade template. Additionally the ilvl of a new upgraded item will be decreased by the template's lvl decrease percentage. For example an upgrade of 8% will reduce the ilvl of a weapon by 8 to 8percent.
The item will get upgrades to other stats, such as critical strike damage, PvE damages, and block, parry, and dodge rating in addition to the base ilvl. These increases are dependent on the upgrade template.
In the upgrade template you can check the amount of damage or defense the item will be able to sustain when it is upgraded. This is displayed below the cost and upgrade percentages. All armor and weapons, except practice equipment, get these stats when they level up. The value of these stats will be dictated by the market, with a perfectly perfectly rolled piece of armor or weapon can command significantly more in trade value than unupp'd versions. The same applies to other armor pieces such as circlets or Tiaras.
